Wilkes-Barre is a city in the U.S state of Pennsylvania and considered as the important place in the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Scranton–Wilkes-Barre–Hazleton, PA. The city was founded in 1769 and thrived with coal reserves and subsequently hundreds of immigrants. It has seen great growth during first half of the 20th century, but post World War Two and Knox mine disaster wrecked the city’s economy. Currently it has nearly forty thousand population, which makes it as the 13th largest in the state.
